We could not go out of the Resort

May be not always, but the Environment Day today is compelling my mind to imagine and evoke the simple life, an adventurous spirit, and a renewed connection with nature again. These thoughts and some quick breaks from monotonous life to visit a wood or a wine country, a mountaintop or a shore, encourage relaxation and make me feel fresh for a while. I am sure, this happens not only with me, but with every human being with a heart!

Few weeks back, suddenly Preeti called me up on a Friday evening, “Hey, let’s take a break! Let’s go to Mysore tomorrow, to spend a night somewhere….” I had no reason to say ‘No’. Quickly, she booked rooms in a resort – ‘Golden Landmark’. I and Preeti conveyed the quick plan to our hubby-dears….Oh! Thanks to the Corporate Life! How easily they said ‘Yes!’ too!

Saturday morning, we started our journey at 6:30 am. Lovely morning it was! We didn’t use AC…kept our windows wide open all the way….fresh wind through the windows made our minds refreshed…our kids kept playing….No one talked about work…..We had our break-fast at Kamath dhaba. Filter Coffee was really special!

We reached the resort at 11 am. I had to say, “Preeti! You made my day!”. The entrance was awesome…both the sides were covered with big, huge trees….We were welcomed well. The service boys took us to our rooms through a small wood……Chirping of the birds, smell of flowers and fruits, all made us mesmerized. Just a thought came to my mind… that trees build community, fabricating and reviving the relationships that make up nature. The distinctive chemical signatures, aromatic compounds they release into the air and soil, attract the other living beings whose inter-relationships weave healthy landscapes, from invisible-to-the-eye microbes to winged pollinators to colorful songbirds.  Trees are really, the pioneers in forming those communities. Once their roots stretch into the soil and their stems reach upward, they invite pollinators and birds and all the other lives that sustain them and the life on Earth.

Why people don’t understand that??? Most of the people know, that we can’t survive without trees, but who cares! Hungers for ‘money’, ‘wealth’ are making people cut the trees. And why to care for next generations…..how does it matter to us if no human being survives after few 100 years…just live life while you are alive. Isn’t it?

Anyways, I am amazed to see how Golden Landmark is trying to conserve old trees, beautifully maintaining it’s green landscape.

Doing a bit on the Occasion at least

Elder say, in the morning, firstly see Green Trees,
Open the window to feel the breeze..
To soothe your eyes, To soothe your mind.
Walk with bare foot on the green grass,
Smell some flowers before you rush to do your routine tasks.

                             But now, what surround us?
Broken bottles, broken pieces of glass,
Pieces of burnt cigarettes and polythene on the grass
Jungle of trees lost its true implication,
Jungle of concrete is the new connotation

Woods are mostly gone, who give you clean air to breathe
All healthy trees are gone because of greed…
Inorganics are sprayed on your food,
Dry air play with your mood...

There still many things to do,
But do you really care with the things around you?
                             It’s the time to usher
To get a toxic free future
Otherwise, when the last tree is cut,
You will realize that money can’t save your earth.

Happy Environment Day!!!!

Environment Day is on 5th June

Monika said, “Tumhari tou lottery lag gayi yaar!!!”, when I told her that I would be shifting to Bangalore.

‘Pensioner’s paradise’, ‘Garden City’, ‘AC City’….so many terms, my colleagues/ friends used to refer Bangalore. I felt myself very lucky.

I shifted to Bangalore in October, 2012. It was a pleasant winter. Nice weather. I proudly showed my friends/ kith and kins how we were spending our days and nights without using heavy blankets, jackets, full sweater, through Skype, clicking photographs, uploading in Facebook, Flickr, Instagram.

I heard, in Bangalore, summer stays only for two months – February and March. In 2013, summer duration was a bit longer than the previous year, people said.

But what, now in 2014, the season’s duration is increasing …… No rain…Scorching heat in the day time, as if the AC city is trying to compete with many other cities to reach Delhi’s level soon…

Is this called Biodiversity??? Look around, you will get the answer……

Very less number of trees in most of the areas of the city……People are cutting trees for building their villas….beautifying/replacing with beautiful flower pots. Builders are constructing big residential complexes, cutting the forests, trees….having no concern of global warming! They will buy ACs to beat the heat!!! If needed, they will install one AC per room…it’s a sign of luxury, aristocracy in a way!!!

Just drive through the HAL road and then drive through the outer ring road, electronic city, MG road…..You will feel the difference….you can easily count how many trees are there….

Can’t we take a step forward to save our Mother Earth…???

We all complain about things that are wrong around us. Don’t you think, the possibility of doing something more than complaining, or waiting for someone else to fix things, is way more empowering?

This moment is critical. The time is now to take action to protect the Earth.

Making a big difference can start with a small step.

Environment Day is on 5thJune. I am planning some plantation....are you???
